About the Akron Celtic Guards

In 2002 after an informal poc around at a wedding between an American and a hurler from Clare, Ireland. Paddy Taylor Sr. had a dream, to start a Hurling Team. With the support of Sean Custy (Pat’s Father) to bring over a set of hurling sticks and sliotars and the local Irish-American Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Team was formed.

With mentorship from Al O’Leary (who had started the Cleveland Kickhams Hurling Club), the various Coaches (Seamus White, Noel Morton, Mark Agner), the many Chili Cook Offs, Jim Collver of the Celtic Club of Ohio, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, our membership has flourished.
